Lego Photobooth

I suppose I should be doing my first Hawkes Bay blog entry about how Photo Booth Fun now has a Photo Booth based here in the beautiful sunny Hawke’s Bay ready to serve all the wonderful weddings and events that happen here but I just had to share this…

I was getting everything ready to go out to Justine & Jamie’s wedding at Craggy Range Winery in Havelock North, when my 11 year old son turned up with this… a Lego Photo Booth, complete with operator, client, camera box and photo strip, and even the trolley to transport to the venue. Awesome stuff! Gotta love kids creativity.

Happy Birthday Photo Booth Fun – 2 years On

Wow, just looked at the calendar and it’s our birthday! Two years on and we are just getting better and having more fun everyday!

So how did we get here? What started it all?

We get that question a lot and I thought I might post the story of Photo Booth Fun and some cool things we’ve done previously.

The Beginning

It’s mid 2009 and I was happily working as a commercial photographer in Wellington. My girlfriend (and constant source of support) JL was just about to turn 30 and we had planned a nice big party in my new studio. I’m not even sure where the idea came from but she really wanted a photo booth set up for the party, and being the crafty type decided to give it a go. I’d almost made one for a wedding earlier in the year but it never happened due to it being outside and the weather not playing nice.

So I built one for JL and it was a total hit. Having loads of friends from the film industry didn’t hurt either, bloody show ponies!

After seeing how much fun the booth was, I decided it was a great addition to my Wedding photography and set about making a more robust system and so we ended up with our very first commercial version: Big Bertha!

Bertha did us proud and after a few months (and almost too many gigs to handle) we realised we were on to a good thing and out of Brett Stanley Photography was born Photo Booth Fun!

The business took on a life of it’s own and we headed in to the workshop to manufacture more booths, making them smaller and easier to move around as we were getting bookings all over the country.

Version 2 was a huge step forward in portability and looks, and we had great feedback about her. She (yes, our booths are female) even went on planes due to it’s small size and weight which opened up a whole new market for us.

With the help of Eden And Suze in Auckland we set up a branch there and started New Zealand’s first intercity Photo Booth company.

After a year, some awards, and some very valuable experience we further refined the booth design and came out with Version 3, our most attractive number yet.

Two of these models debuted at the Parachute Music Festival in Hamilton with the World Vision stand and what a weekend they had! Over 3000 people had their shots take despite the rain and wind, and with the instant upload to World Vision’s Facebook page their fan base tripled in the space of 3 days.

That was the start of our Hamilton photo booth branch as well, as Carmen and Corey took the photobooth-lovin’ Waikato and Bay Of Plenty regions by storm.

Since then we’ve been at events such as:

  • Outrageous Fortune at Auckland Museum
  • The Pacifika Festival
  • The Big Gay Out
  • Red Bull Events
  • Tattoo Festivals
  • Homegrown Music Festival for The Rock FM
  • Rhythm and Vines for Cleo Magazine
  • Weddings on Waiheke
  • School Balls
  • Birthdays all over the country

We now cover the whole North Island, from Auckland to Wellington, from Hamilton to Napier, and it’s all down to our wonderful clients, our awesome staff and booth addicts all over New Zealand. Thank you so much for your support and we’re looking forward to the next year!

Retro Photobooths

We’ve been in the United States researching photo booths and have come across a few of the old school kind that just blew us away!

The prints took a full five minutes to appear (not 2.5 unfortunately) and they were still wet due to the amazing chemical process. These booths are totally film based and the mechanics inside would make our updated digital versions look like a toy.

It’s been great to go back to our roots and use these machines, but can you imagine guests waiting 5 minutes for their prints?! Not with photo booth fun, our prints are out, dry and ready to share within seconds.

School Ball Photo Booths

We’ve been getting a HUGE response from students attending the recent School Ball Expos around the country, hard to get them out of the booth when the doors are closing!

We’ve been to a few of the expo’s in Auckland, Hamilton and this Thursday is Tauranga.

Our booths are available for school ball hire and are a great addition to your professional photographer. You certainly want some nice formal photographs to remember the night (when do you get the chance to dress up like that normally!?), but to really capture the night you need a photobooth to get all the fun stuff.

We have packages for School Balls, School Formals and Graduation Balls, so don’t hesitate to contact us 0800 368 626.

Outrageous Fortune Photo Booth!

We here are Photo Booth Central have been fans of the Outrageous Fortune series for, like, bloody ages now, and it was pretty sad when it finished, so imagine the joy that ran through the office when we were asked to provide a booth for the Exhibition at Auckland Museum!

Every Saturday until the end of February, from 11.30 am – 1.30pm, we will be in the foyer of the museum along with A Cut Above Academy, who will be applying tattoos and free makeovers to all the visitors.

The cool thing about the set up is that all the photos from the booth are instantly uploaded to the museum website where they can be shared on Facebook! Check out the Outrageous Fortune Photo Gallery.

We also had the honour of being at the launch of the Exhibition and even had an intimate moment with Cheryl (Robyn Malcolm) and Kasey (Nicole Whippy) in the booth.

Made. My. Night!

Where in the world is Photo Booth Fun?

We get asked all the time do we deliver to this place and that place and our answer is always the same: If you can drive or fly there, we can deliver a booth to you. Now this doesn’t mean that we don’t charge you for the travel but we do have large areas that do have free delivery and here’s a list:

  • Auckland Region
  • Wellington Region
  • Christchurch Region
  • Hamilton and Waikato
  • Napier and Hawkes Bay

We’ve been so flat out lately that we’ve not had time to post on here but we just had to pass on the news we just got: Wedding Wise have voted us Top Rated Vendor for 2010!

Check out the lovely badge they gave us:

Cute huh and pretty amazing. Travelling photo booths are so hip right now and that’s an award to prove that we are one of the best.

More recent highlights to come real soon, some fun stuff including Rhythm and Vines, Parachute, World Vision, weddings and parties.

Stay tuned booth addicts.

Outdoor Sunset Booth – Office Christmas Party Ideas

Just a quick post about a recent event we were booked for. A local web design company in Wellington had their work xmas party up on the roof of their building and with that view we just HAD to take the curtain off and let the city be our backdrop.

Springload Xmas 2010 from Photo Booth Fun on Vimeo.

As you can see, lots of fun was had with our amazing booth (or kiosk as it turned out!)

We Win Awards!

Well one so far, but we don’t plan on stopping there, no sir-ee!

We exhibited last week at the New Zealand Corporate Events Expo and had a great time with loads of people trying out the photo booth we had there.

We love expos as you get to meet so many new people and it’s great to see their reaction to the booths. So many people don’t even know what they are!

Anyway, we were also nominated in the People’s Choice Awards which were held last Thursday in Auckland and apparently we won Best Nationwide Photographer!

I say apparently because we couldn’t make the awards dinner due to bookings but we did receive a nice glass trophy.

It’s now in the office and covered in sticky fingermarks…

Thanks to all who voted and congrats to all the finalists. We hope to keep providing quality services and continue to Bring The Booth!
