We have been so busy…

What a month it has been here in Auckland. Time is flying past with a third of the year gone and we have been busy at weddings, parties, charity events and Expo’s galore. We had URBIS Design day in Ponsonby with Mini Garage,  http://urbismagazine.com/designday/  both booths were there and we were uploading photos to the UBRIS website as the shots were created…how cool is that?

We love Red Bull events and we were at the Nathan Club in Britomart for their Easter Bash and took some crazy photos – no chance to get tired, just crack open another can of Red Bull! We are looking forward to working with Red Bull at more functions this year! www.redbull.co.nz

We love supporting deserving charity organisations and had a great time helping out Malaghan Institute charity at the Floating Pavilion.  Yojo www.yojo.co.nz    was responsible for putting on this great night –we think this is one of the best strips we have done!!

We’ve just finished a busy weekend – we went from Whenuapai to Bombay to Waiheke Island before going to the Grand Wedding Show at Sky City. This was MASSIVE, soooooo many brides-to-be trying out our traditional booth and our kiosk, so options for everyone to try……some people even jumped in both! You can check out some of these photos on our online gallery http://gallery.photoboothfun.co.nz/Events.  A big congrats to our winner Louise Schutte who won a FREE two hour booth for her big day!

We work with Astra Bridal and we have a great function coming up on 27th May  – all proceeds to go to  Endometriosis New Zealand so please visit this website

Now bring on the School Ball season!

Zombies, Big Balloons and Helicopters

So what have Carmen, Corey and Justin been up to in the Waikato and BOP since our last Blog? We had a great week as the official photo booth for Balloons Over Waikato, we survived Zombie attacks at Armageddon this weekend, and helped the Westpac Waikato Air Ambulance fund raise at their open day too – mix in birthdays and weddings and wowwee!

But it’s not only the last few weeks that we’ve been super busy, with wedding season nearing an end, we made a list of the places we’ve visited. In the past few months we’ve had events in Hamilton, Ohaupo, Cambridge, Karapiro, Raglan, Te Awamutu, Otorohanga, Matamata, Morrinsville, Whitianga, Tauranga, Waihi (and Waihi Beach) Mt Mounganui, Pyes Pa, KatiKati, Rotorua, Whakatane and New Plymouth – we’ve even crossed the Bombay’s to help our Auckland crews with events in Western Springs, Howick and Queen St too!

Christchurch Photo Booth News

I feel very privileged to be returning to my hometown of Christchurch after fifteen years away and am super excited to bring Photo Booth Fun with me. There is such a sense of optimism in the region for 2012 and the city is showing its impressive resilient spirit and creativity with new innovations and developments everywhere – From the pop-up mall, to bars, cafes and even a new venue for the wonderful Court Theatre – Not to mention the incredible and dynamic creations from the Gap Filler team: where anyone with an idea and initiative can enlist their help to transform vacant sites into temporary, creative projects for the benefit of the community : www.gapfiller.org.nz  So cool!

We’ve had a great welcome in Christchurch with the region’s universities making sure they started their year off with some photobooth lovin. From a Lincoln Staff Garden Party to a 1600 strong toga party at Canterbury University. And of course, along with our teammates in the other centres around NZ, we joined ECPAT to help spread their important message during O week.

And the fun’s not over for our uni mates, we’re looking forward to joining Canterbury graduates at the annual UCSA Grad Ball on April 27th. So, if you’ve graduated and want a chance to not only dress up and celebrate your time at uni but to jump in our booth and get snapped in your finery, we hope to see you there!

I’m off now to prepare for what I think is a birthday party record for the Photo Booth Fun team – A 90th celebration – And since the party is my very own Granddad’s, I know there won’t be a crocheted afghan or pair of slippers in sight – Just lots of fun celebrating and getting snapped in the booth!

What have we been doing in Auckland?

Greetings from the team at Photo Booth Fun in Auckland – what an awesome and busy month for us in the City of Sails. We kicked off the month at Auckland University helping out the team at ECPAT – a fantastic cause www.ecpat.org.nz. Then it was off to the AUT campus’ at North Shore, Manukau and the City for their O Week – more dressing up than studying I think…..

One of our operators tied the knot in Auckland so we were there to celebrate, with one of our booths of course. Congrats to Sara and Kayne!

One of our biggest events was Pasifika and getting the Prime Minister  Mr John Key in the booth was definately a highlight – thanks to the Department of Labour for having us.

Then it was onto ASB Polyfest in Manukau for two days with Pasefika Proud and Niufm – what a great bunch of people!

The school ball season is almost upon us so we attended the School Ball Expo at Ellerslie Events centre and launched a really cool competition. Jump on our facebook site for details on how to win a FREE booth for your school.  A photo booth at your school ball is a must – heaps of fun and something you’ll get to keep forever!

We would also like to thank all the happy couples who had a booth at their wedding and for letting us be part of your special day.  We hope you cherish the photos for a lifetime!

Finally welcome to the Auckland Team our two newest operators Willy and Chloe. We are so busy that we need more troops!

BRING ON APRIL

Helping to end child slavery and BIG balloons!

The Photo Booth Fun team have been busy in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty helping to celebrate heaps of Weddings and Birthdays.  Nationally we’ve been getting out and about supporting some awesome charities too…

Ecpat – Child Alert
While we have lots of fun at Photo Booth Fun we also like to support worthwhile causes like Star Ship and the Child Cancer Foundation. Over the past few weeks our national network of photo booth operators have helped www.ecpat.org.nz and their ‘Don’t Sweep it Under the Rug’ uni tour, to spread their message of ending the commercial sexual exploitation of children in New Zealand and around the world. The tour passed through Auckland’s AUT, Wellington’s Victoria University, Palmerston North’s Massey University, Canterbury University in Christchurch and Dunedin’s Otago University, and finished up at Waikato University; we were stoked with the response from our uni students. You can check out Waikato and other university photo albums on Ecpat’s Facebook page.

Balloons Over Waikato 2012
We love Balloons, especially giant ones with tiny baskets hanging below them – and we’re pleased to be sponsors and the official photo booth suppliers of Balloons Over Waikato 2012 Wednesday 28 March – Sunday 1 April 2012.

We’ve got a DOUBLE PASS to the night glow sponsor’s tent to give away to one of our awesome Facebook FANS!  Night glowing balloons, nibbles and drinks! How cool is that? To be in to win simply comment on our Balloons over Waikato Facebook post before this Thursday nights draw.

Wellington Photo Booth Round Up – Child Cancer & The Rugby Sevens

Wow, well 2012 started with a bang I can tell you, we’ve not stopped since we dragged ourselves out of bed on the day after the day after new years day! But we’ve been having fun, that’s for sure. Here’s a quick round up of the month that was:

Salvation Army Amplify 2012
We love our music here at Photo Booth Fun and to have a booth at the 2012 Salvation Army Amplify Camp was awesome, some many creatives in one place.

Out In The Square
The New Zealand Aids Foundation are an amazing group and they were part of the Out In The Square festival in Wellington last month, complete with some well worded tattoos for everyone that visited their stall.

Teddy Bear’s Picnic
We’ve worked quite a bit with the Child Cancer Foundation and always have a great time. The Interislander Teddy Bear’s Picnic was no exception with some great families and kids jumping in the booth for some shots with their favorite teddy.

North City Wedding Expo
Always up for a bit of self promotion, the Wellington team headed to the Poriura Te Rauparaha Arena where we chatted with hundreds of lovely couples and we even won the People’s Choice Award for the best stand. Yay us!

Wellington Rugby Sevens at The Thistle Inn
Every year it’s on and it just gets better and better! So many costumes and so little sleep! We had a booth at The Thistle Inn down by the stadium and it was just mayhem, wonderful wonderful mayhem.

…and way too many private parties and weddings to count!

Lego Photobooth

I suppose I should be doing my first Hawkes Bay blog entry about how Photo Booth Fun now has a Photo Booth based here in the beautiful sunny Hawke’s Bay ready to serve all the wonderful weddings and events that happen here but I just had to share this…

I was getting everything ready to go out to Justine & Jamie’s wedding at Craggy Range Winery in Havelock North, when my 11 year old son turned up with this… a Lego Photo Booth, complete with operator, client, camera box and photo strip, and even the trolley to transport to the venue. Awesome stuff! Gotta love kids creativity.

Well I can’t promise a Lego Photo Booth for your event but I can promise you’ll have fun.

Happy Birthday Photo Booth Fun – 2 years On

Posted by David, in Auckland, Awards, Christchurch, Corporate

Wow, just looked at the calendar and it’s our birthday! Two years on and we are just getting better and having more fun everyday!

So how did we get here? What started it all?

We get that question a lot and I thought I might post the story of Photo Booth Fun and some cool things we’ve done previously.

The Beginning

It’s mid 2009 and I was happily working as a commercial photographer in Wellington. My girlfriend (and constant source of support) JL was just about to turn 30 and we had planned a nice big party in my new studio. I’m not even sure where the idea came from but she really wanted a photo booth set up for the party, and being the crafty type decided to give it a go. I’d almost made one for a wedding earlier in the year but it never happened due to it being outside and the weather not playing nice.

So I built one for JL and it was a total hit. Having loads of friends from the film industry didn’t hurt either, bloody show ponies!

After seeing how much fun the booth was, I decided it was a great addition to my Wedding photography and set about making a more robust system and so we ended up with our very first commercial version: Big Bertha!

Bertha did us proud and after a few months (and almost too many gigs to handle) we realised we were on to a good thing and out of Brett Stanley Photography was born Photo Booth Fun!

The business took on a life of it’s own and we headed in to the workshop to manufacture more booths, making them smaller and easier to move around as we were getting bookings all over the country.

Version 2 was a huge step forward in portability and looks, and we had great feedback about her. She (yes, our booths are female) even went on planes due to it’s small size and weight which opened up a whole new market for us.

With the help of Eden And Suze in Auckland we set up a branch there and started New Zealand’s first intercity Photo Booth company.

After a year, some awards, and some very valuable experience we further refined the booth design and came out with Version 3, our most attractive number yet.

Two of these models debuted at the Parachute Music Festival in Hamilton with the World Vision stand and what a weekend they had! Over 3000 people had their shots take despite the rain and wind, and with the instant upload to World Vision’s Facebook page their fan base tripled in the space of 3 days.

That was the start of our Hamilton photo booth branch as well, as Carmen and Corey took the photobooth-lovin’ Waikato and Bay Of Plenty regions by storm.

Since then we’ve been at events such as:

  • Outrageous Fortune at Auckland Museum
  • The Pacifika Festival
  • The Big Gay Out
  • Red Bull Events
  • Tattoo Festivals
  • Homegrown Music Festival for The Rock FM
  • Rhythm and Vines for Cleo Magazine
  • Weddings on Waiheke
  • School Balls
  • Birthdays all over the country

We now cover the whole country, from Auckland and Wellington on the North Island to Christchurch and Dunedin on the South (and everywhere in between), and it’s all down to our wonderful clients, our awesome staff and booth addicts all over New Zealand. Thank you so much for your support and we’re looking forward to the next year!

Retro Photobooths

Posted by David, in Photo Booth

We’ve been in the United States researching photo booths and have come across a few of the old school kind that just blew us away!

The prints took a full five minutes to appear (not 2.5 unfortunately) and they were still wet due to the amazing chemical process. These booths are totally film based and the mechanics inside would make our updated digital versions look like a toy.

It’s been great to go back to our roots and use these machines, but can you imagine guests waiting 5 minutes for their prints?! Not with photo booth fun, our prints are out, dry and ready to share within seconds.
