Because people do the funniest things when they think no one's watching...

If at first you don’t succeed

IMG_0044

Lots of folk love the Photobooth! It attracts the exhibitionists and, eventually, it attracts the introverts. There’s just something about the fun of pulling the curtain and posing for the camera that people can’t resist.

The Phoobooth also attracts the perfectionists from time to time. Standing next to the Booth you get to watch the vast majority of folks duck inside and wing it in front of the camera. It’s the spontaneity that leads to all the shrieks of laughter coming from inside the curtain.

But occasionally there are those who like to plan. Sometimes you hear them planning a series of poses with a friend in the line to use the booth. Sometimes you hear them plotting inside the booth and every once in a while you see them doing practise shots before they go inside. A quick couple of selfies on a smartphone can really help those perfectionists work out the best poses to maximise their fun, good looks or the message they’re trying to send with the picture. You see a pair snapping away, come along to the Booth and duck inside. There’s still the same happy laughter but the shots are juuuuuust right.

It takes all kinds of people.

And all kinds of people love the Photobooth.

An idyllic Christchurch wedding

I love seeing all the elements of a wedding come together on the big day – So much goes into planning all the details; it can be a stressful time but the pay off is so worth it. The wedding blog 100 Layer Cake recently featured a beautifully put together autumn wedding that we attended here in Christchurch. The photographer, Andrea Seymour, got a great snap of our photo booth looking cosily idyllic in the garden gazebo at the fabulous Trents Estate Vineyard – This was before the guests arrived of course as it was non-stop action in there once it was spotted!

“While we were out in the fields chasing the light and dancing in the sunset for our photos, our lovely guests were entertained by live acoustic music, served delicious canapés, and enjoyed some fun with our photobooth. We set up our guest book beside the photobooth so our guests could put one photo strip in the book and write us a little message.”    Samantha – Bride.

The photo booth is a perfect element to include in your celebrations – Either giving the guests something entertaining to do while you’re away getting photos or as an addition to the fun of the reception. Either way, we guarantee it’ll be one of the ingredients which go into making your wedding super enjoyable and memorable.

A special moment in history …

Monday 19th August 2013 – a date that will be remembered by many for a very long time!  This is the date that same-sex-marriages in New Zealand become legal and 31 couples around the country tied the knot!

We were lucky enough to be part of one very special wedding – that of the lovely Tash & Mel!  They were one of the first to be married on Monday, as part of ZM’s Fabulous Gay Wedding.  Lets face it – we love a good wedding and we sure didn’t want to miss out on this one!

And what a wedding!!!  Tash & Mel looked AMAZING and the day was perfectly planned out – from drag queens, to Mr Whippy to the photo booth (a must have at every wedding of course!).

The reception was held at the Cloud, where the atmosphere was buzzing.  There were there a lot of toasts to the happy couple, and many raised glass gestures to a very special moment in history.

On behalf of the entire Photo Booth Fun team, we would like to wish Tash and Mel a very long, happy and healthy life together.  And for those couples who are now able to legally wed, we wish you all the very best for the planning of your big day.

Back to Back Champions… Go the Chiefs!

We can’t help but skite about our 2013 Super Rugby champions who dealt to the ACT Brumbies in a nerve-wracking final at Waikato Stadium. In front of a sold-out sea of red, yellow and black, the boys did us proud for the second year in a row.

We Photobooth Fun Waikato/BOP managers, Corey and Carmen, in Rarotonga at the time, battled the rain on our little motor scooter to find a place to watch the television coverage. The Avarua Fishing Club proved a great spot and with the wind lashing our backs we joined locals and tourists alike to cheer our team on.

Can’t wait to see SBW on the streets of the Tron again next season! Three years in a row boys?

Blues..what blues?

Christchurch has been feeling the cold a bit, sure we’ve been getting some sunshine but that frost still bites! With the onset of the colder months, there’s been a bit in the media about the winter blues. I’m sure it’s something most of us can relate to to some degree, with many looking wistfully to the coming of spring and finding good excuses to hole up and hide out until it arrives – But this does nothing to help lift us out of that winter funk! Social interaction and merrymaking are great medicines and as tempting as it is to put on those fleecy trackies and old woolly socks and bunker down in front of the telly, maybe it’s time to try a new tack: Embrace and celebrate winter with a little mid-winter bash!

If you’re not one who’s fortunate enough to have their birthday fall mid-year (yes, I believe it’s a positive; a good break in the long wait til the next end of year festivities and a great excuse to have a party!), don’t fret – You can always hold a shindig with whatever theme you wish – be it a way-to-say-thanks-for-all-the-hard-work staff party, a Mid winter Christmas party or an I-have-no-reason-except-that-I-want-to-party party,  it’s time to throw off those trackies (come on, they do us few favours really), swap the socks for dancing shoes and get planning! And yes, the photo booth is a perfect way to increase the laughter (and all the healthful benefits that go with it) ten fold.

Of course, some people are brave enough to plan their wedding in winter – It’s not for everyone but what a perfect way to beat those blues before they even have a chance to settle! We had some great shots in the booth at a Christchurch wedding earlier this month, sure the day was a bit crisp but the sun shone and the venue was toasty warm. And best of all, the wedding party and the guests were laughing and smiling all day long.

Stay smiling everyone!

Wow – what a busy month its turned out to be here in Auckland!  Its been non-stop smiles, laughter and crazy poses inside our booths over the past weeks.

We have been at 21st birthdays, weddings, corporate award dinners, school balls (and even school ball pre-ball parties) Auckland wide and have had endless fun!  Fancy dress has been the name of the game … check out some of these creative costumes  – LOVE EM!

We were also very honoured to be at the Ronald McDonald House Mid Winter Christmas party a few weeks back.  Nothing can quite describe the feeling of seeing the faces of children and their families light up after stepping inside the booth.  There was a guest appearance from Ronald McDonald himself and even Santa was able to stop by from the North Pole!  It was a magical evening and so special that Photo Booth Fun was able to be a part of it.

Until next time, have fun and keep smiling!

Waikato, Bay of Plenty & Taranaki….we’ve got you covered!

Did you know our photobooths can travel?

Yep “Big Red” aka Elmo, jumps on a Mainfreight truck most weeks getting between our Regions in Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Auckland, Taranaki, Wellington, Hawkes Bay and Christchurch covering all the events we might not otherwise have been able to do without him.

So even if you’re thinking about last-minute bookings, don’t hesitate to contact Suze in our administration department with your enquiry.  Suze has a background in the travel industry so she has no trouble creating an itinerary for Big Red.  He’s been all over New Zealand so maybe the next event he’s at will be yours.

We love Big Red as he’s been all through the Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Taranaki with us.  He’s been to school balls, corporate functions, weddings, birthdays, engagements and hen and bachelor parties.

He’s a super-hero in our Photobooth Fun team!

Speaking of our super heroes…here’s our super-groom Jonathan from this weekend’s gig.  Congratulations to Jonathan who married his own Lois Lane (Kelli-Brooke) this weekend.

In fact all over Hawkes Bay We’ve been having a whole lot of fun! Photo Booth Fun that is!

One Press

In short the secret is to not have a party… of any sort… without adding some

Young and old alike ….

If someone was to ask me what the best thing about a photo booth is, I would have to say how it caters to pretty much every age group.  There are very few things out there that can provide so much fun for young and old alike.

We had a booth at our wedding a few months back, and it was the most magical thing to be able to take my 90 year old grandmother in the booth …. and once she got a taste of it, do you think we could get her out of there?!?  She just loved it!  And we of course now have these wonderful photographs of us together that will be treasured forever.

And then there are the little people …… just watching their little faces light up when they see instant photographs of themselves – priceless!!   The Auckland booth was at a 2 year old birthday party recently, and one mum couldn’t believe how many photos her son had taken in the booth.  She could never normally get him to stand in front of camera (let alone smile for a photo!) but he just came alive in the booth (and hearing his giggles coming from inside the curtain was contagious!!)  It was awesome to see.  And the wonderful thing was – there was no need for goody bags at the end of the party …. every child got to take home their photos with them – it doesn’t get much better than that, does it?

So, if you are wondering what to do for your child’s next birthday, why not hire a booth for something a little bit different (and guaranteed to make EVERYONE smile!)?  And remember, we can offer customised photo strips too – so be it trains or fairies or butterflies (or whatever themed party you may be having) – we can make it happen!

Hope you are having a great June everyone, and until next month, stay warm and dry!
